David Hockstein has excelled wonderfully this year as a student. He participates often in every class, to the point that most teachers have to tell him on a daily basis that he should let someone else raise their hand. David was the first student chosen by the Humanities teachers to lead his class’s fishbowl discussion. He has also passed every practice regents test and Spanish test that the teachers have given him with an 85% or above. He is currently averaging a 94% for this year in gym.
In addition to his academic successes, David has also had successes in his community this year. He has helped teachers with decorating their rooms and organizing the supplies after school. This significantly benefits the environment in which he and his community learn. He also helped set up the Valentine’s Day dance; David believes dances greatly contribute to the overall spirit of the community. He also always brings in extra pens in case his fellow students are in need of a writing utensil. In addition, he is considering officially becoming a student tutor next year; this is a program at Frank McCourt High School in which students who are good in certain subjects can help other kids in their community understand them better. He is considering this because he essentially already does this if students need help, he just has not signed up officially.
